COST OF FOREST MANAGEMENT TIMBER IN THE AMAZON: A CASE STUDY IN ACRE

This work addressed sustainable forest management (SFM) in Acre and its purpose was to identify the cost of timber production coming from managed areas in that state. To this end,were collected at four sites logging firms. The results generated showed that: a) at a distance of 50 kilometer the value of cubic meters of timber arrived at the courtyard of the sawmill amounting to R$346.64 m3 for hard wood and R$279.64 m3 for white wood; b) forest exploitation presents itself as the most expensive stage of management; c) the cost of forest management tends to be cheaper in distant lands, but does not pay for the transportation value wood into the courtyard e d) the cost of MFS already at the limit, there is nothing to reduce, thus enabling the cost of change is not a suggestion, then one must identify a better way to drive the industrialization processes and add value to the product.
